The day after Winter Storm Quinn blew through town leaving its path of destruction, many people of our community gathered at the Roger Sherman Inn on Thursday March 8th for a night to celebrate ABC of New Canaan and its scholars. The “Cocktails for A Cause” fundraiser was an opportunity to thank the New Canaan community for supporting the program for the past 45 years, as well as to enlighten newcomers about the program and its mission.
With a fresh blanket of snow, the outside of The Roger Sherman glistened. Meanwhile, inside fireplaces warmed the 125 guests and made the perfect setting for all to forget about their power issues and mingle with friends. The seven ABC scholars charmed the attendees as they chatted with everyone, excited as they knew they had yet another snow day on Friday! The highlight of the evening were the speeches by our two graduating seniors – Josiah Jones and Kai Clancy – who both gave heartfelt thanks to the ABC Board, the Resident Directors, their parents and the community for their support and dedication to the program.
I would like to thank our fundraising committee (M.E. O’Connor, Tracy duPont, Dina Connelly, Jen Essigs, Mary Freiberg, Margaret Pastel, Judy Gilroy, Malia Frame, Steffi Loomis, Maria Magliacano, Jenifer Richardson, Margaret Roscoe, Mary Truslow, Whitney Williams, Laura Wilson and Jen Zonis), for their efforts to make this event such a success!
Thank you to all our attendees who came out on a cold night and to the entire community of New Canaan for supporting our scholars!
President, ABC of New Canaan
